Christmas Eve, 24 December: Buses drive according to a Saturday schedule with few additional trips during the morning. Last trips of the day will be around 15:00.
Christmas Day, 25 December: Buses drive according to a Sunday schedule.
Boxing Day, 26 December: Buses drive according to a Sunday schedule.
New Year’s Eve, 31 December: Buses drive according to a Saturday schedule with few additional trips during the morning. Last trips of the day will be around 15:00.

Service over Christmas and New Years 2024- 2025

The night bus fare has been temporarily reduced to a single fare of 650 kr. It is also possible to pay contactless with debit and credit cards on board all night buses. Taking a night bus has never been easier than now.

Contactless payments are currently in final testing. This payment solution, which is part of the Klapp payment system, has been installed on all Strætó buses, though few adjustments are still being made. It is possible to pay a single adult fare contactless with debit and credit cards.
We remind customers with active period passes or single tickets in the app to have their QR code ready on the screen before boarding the bus, otherwise there is a possibility that the contactless payments will activate, and one general ticket will be charged on the card. When the phone is placed near the scanner, the QR code should take over the wallet.

Contactless payments in final testing

A minor change will be made to the timetable for Route 52, with a ten-minute delay in departure from Landeyjahöfn on weekends, now departing at 10:35. This is the same time as the bus departs on weekdays, so the first trip on this route will now always depart from Landeyjahöfn at 10:35.

Starting November 1st, there will be changes to route 94 to accommodate the changed flight schedule from Reykjavik to Höfn in Hornafjörður.
As of November 1st, the route will operate the later trip on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays instead of the earlier one. The route does not drive on Tuesdays. One trip on Thursdays and Sundays (at a different time).

Changes on route 94

Due to road closures, routes 1, 2, 3, 6, 11, 12, 13, and 55 will take detours as Vonarstræti will be closed. This will apply from 8:00 on Monday, October 28, until 16:00 on Wednesday, October 30.

Impact of the Nordic Council Meeting on Strætó

Starting from October 18th, an additional trip will be added in both directions on Fridays on Route 65. This change will return the bus schedule to what it was last spring.
The new schedule for Route 65 is as follows:

Additional Bus Trip on Route 65 on Fridays

Strætó has received the recognition of Jafnvægisvogin 2024. Jafnvægisvogin is a project carried out by FKA (Association of Businesswomen in Iceland). Jafnvægisvogin is intended to increase the gender balance in the top management of companies in Icelandic business. The goal is that by 2027, the gender ratio in executive boards of companies in Iceland will be at least 40/60.
&#8222;Equality is a choice, and we can be proud to belong to a company that demonstrates through action that equality is important,&#8220; says Sigurborg Þórarinsdóttir, director of HR and quality management at Strætó, who accepted the award on behalf of Strætó.

Strætó receives the recognition of Jafnvægisvogin 2024

Kapp is a fare caping that limits how much you pay for the bus in one day or one week. You will never be charged for more than 3 rides per day or 9 rides per week when buying an adult ticket. This is ideal for those who don’t regularly use the bus, as it allows people to know in advance how much they will pay for the bus in a single day or week.
The best thing about the cap is its predictability – you always know the maximum you’ll pay for the day or the week.
There is nothing you need to do to activate the capping; it is always counting. You just need to remember to always use the same payment method, such as the same Klapp card or the same Klapp app.

DayCap: If you have activated 3 single adult tickets on the same day, you will travel for free for the rest of the day.
WeekCap: If you have activated 9 single adult tickets within one week, you will travel for free for the rest of the week.

The capping is valid within the Klapp payment system used by Strætó in the capital area and with the general single fare – the adult fare.

Kapp - Capping Introduced

Due to mobility week which started September 16th, the Car-free day will be September 22nd. There will be free access to Strætó buses in the capital area and in the countryside during the day and everybody is encouraged to rest their cars and use diverse and eco-friendly means of transport.
This is a great opportunity to try other means of transport – take the bus, cycle or walk.
Note. There is not free access to the night buses Saturday night.

Free access to Strætó buses on the Car-free day

On Monday, European Mobility Week begins, from September 16th to 22nd. 
The theme of the week is Shared Public Space.
Mobility week is a European awareness-raising campaign to improve transports in cities and towns. Since, 2002 cities and towns in Iceland have participated in this concerted effort with municipalities in Europe and Strætó has been involved since beginning.
The aim of the week is to encourage people to think about their own travel habits and encourage more people to use diverse, sustainable means of travel.

Variety of events will be on schedule on the mobility week:
September 16th: Opening and Bike Exhibition 
• The Bike Exhibition by Reiðhjólabændur and Reykjavík city will be opened in Tjarnarsalur at City Hall on September 16th at 16:00 and will remain open every day during Mobility Week.
September 18: Auðlindahringir (The circle of resources ) 
• Auðlindahringir is a series of events at Elliðaárstöð where resource experts from Orkuveitan will guide participants on a cycling tour. The meeting point is at Rafstöðvarvegur at 17:00. 
• Reiðhjólabændur and Bíó Paradís will show the documentary Chasing The Sun. 
• Aðförin í öndvegi will take place at Elliðaárstöð. Orka náttúrunnar and Veitur will host the event at noon at the Bistro by Elliðaárstöð. Soup, bread, and coffee will be served.
September 19: New walking and cycling path and a Pub Quiz 
• Opening of a new walking and cycling path in Suðurhlíðar, in collaboration with Reykjavík city, the Icelandic Road Administration, and Betri Samgöngur. 
• Transportation Pub Quiz at SnorraBar with Samtök um bíllausan lífsstíl (organization for a car-free lifestyle) at 11:00.
September 20: Traffic conference 
• Traffic Conference – Together as a team. Samgöngustofa will hold the Traffic Conference from 9:00 to 15:30 at Gamla Bíó, Ingólfsstræti 2a in Reykjavík. The theme: Diverse Groups of Road Users.
September 21: People of Reykjavík and Seltjarnarnes cycle together 
• Group Cycling. The City of Reykjavík and Seltjarnarnes are organizing a family cycling trip. Participants will meet at 11:00 at the new viewpoint by the JL House. The 6-kilometer Grótta Circle will be cycled, and participants will be invited to swim, have coffee, juice, and kleinur at the end of the trip.
September 22: Car-Free Day 
• There will be free access to Strætó buses in the capital area and in the countryside during the day and everybody is encouraged to rest their cars and use diverse and eco-friendly means of transport. 
• Garðsbraut Street in Húsavík will be closed to car traffic. A lecture on children’s safety in street design. Norðurþing.

The extra trip that has been running on Thursdays in accordance with the Norræna ferry schedule will be adjusted to match the updated sailing schedule.
<ul>
<li>September 10 to November 5: The extra trip will be on Tuesdays. Departure from Seyðisfjörður to Egilsstaðir at 10:15.</li>
<li>November 13 and 20: The extra trip will shift to Wednesdays.</li>
<li>November 27 to March 12, 2025: No extra trips.</li>
<li>March 19, 2025: Extra trips will resume on Wednesdays.</li>

Route 94

The winter schedule starts on September 30, 2024, with a modified timetable. Also the route will no longer run between Breiðdalsvík and Höfn but will only operate between Djúpivogur and Höfn.

There will be no changes to routes 91, 92, 95, and 96.

Winter Schedule in East Iceland

Grensásvegur has been reopened for traffic after being closed in one direction for several months due to construction.
Routes 2, 14, 15 and 17 will no longer take the detour via Ármúli but instead follow their usual routes.
The route planner is being updated.

No more detours at Grensás

On Saturday, September 7, additional buses will drive on route 55 on Ljósanótt ( Night of Lights). Note that to Reykjanesbær these are additional buses following the standard timetable but on the way from Reykjanesbær after the festival ends, extra trips will be available outside the standard timetable.
To Reykjanesbær
Two additional buses leave from Fjörður in Hafnarfjörður at the same time as scheduled buses, one of them leaves at 17:53 and the other at 19:53 and both ends at Hringbraut/Melteigur in Keflavík. These buses stop at the following stops: Fjörður – Sveitarfélagið Vogar – Hringbraut/Melteigur.
From Reykjanesbær 
When the festival ends, there will be three extra trips from Hringbraut/Melteigur in Keflavík outside the standard timetable, one at 22:45 and two at 23:15 and the buses ends at BSÍ. These buses stop at the following stops: Hringbraut/Melteigur &#8211; Sveitarfélagið Vogar &#8211; Fjörður &#8211; Ásgarður &#8211; Kringlumyrarbraut &#8211; Hlíðar &#8211; Klambratún &#8211; BSÍ.
NOTE:
<ul>
<li>The additional buses will have a sign: Additional buses (Aukavagnar)</li>
<li>The extra buses do not drive between Hringbraut/Melteigur and Keflavík Airport and vice versa. They will not stop at Vogaafleggjari of Grindavíkurafleggjari or drive through Keflavík.</li>
<li>However the extra buses will drive to Vogar and stop at the bus stop Sveitarfélagið Vogar, like route 87, see estimated timetable:</li>

The standard price for the countryside applies and the fare can be paid on board the bus by payment card or cash. Please note that you can not use Klappið on buses in the countryside.

We would like to draw attention to the fact that some hackers have launched campaigns on social media that are not from Strætó. They are “giving” bus cards to the customers. We never ask for full card details and we warn you to click on any links that do not come from us. Beware of scam messages

Route 15 will make an extra trip on Saturday evening, August 31, after the festival&#8217;s concerts, to transport concert guests and others from Mosfellsbær. This trip is after the traditional driving of the route ends.
The additional bus departs from the stop Háholt at 23:55.

Yesterday, a big step was taken towards a carbon-free fleet in 2030 when new contracts were signed with Hagvagnar and Kynnisferðir regarding the operation of buses.
On April 29 last Strætó&#8217;s board decided to enter contracts with these companies, since they offered the lowest price for the work and submitted final bids.
In the new tender, a demand was made that the operator&#8217;s fleet of buses become carbon-free by the end of 2029, but this is in line with Strætó&#8217;s goal of a carbon-free fleet in 2030. This is 70 buses, and with normal renewal of Strætó&#8217;s bus fleet, this goal should be achieved.
&#8222;We at Strætó are very pleased with these contracts, which supports our goal of a carbon-free fleet,&#8220; says Jóhannes S. Rúnarsson, CEO of Strætó. &#8222;We have already secured the purchase of nine electric buses, and the contract is another step towards this important goal.&#8220;

New bus stops in Fossvogur will be put into use on Thursday, August 15, but they are located on either side of the pedestrian bridge from Fossvogur over Kringlumýrarbraut. Routes 1, 2 and 4 will stop at both.

Reykjavík Pride Parade

The Reykjavík Pride Parade will start at 14:00 at Hallgrímskirkja. The parade will go down Skólavörðurstígur, Bankastræti, Lækjargata, Fríkirkjuvegur and end on Sóleyjargata next to Hljómskálagarðurinn.
Strætó participates in Reykjavík Pride as in previous years.

Route 52, which runs between Reykjavík and Landeyjahöfn, will make 21 extra trips due to the „Þjóðhátíð“ – National Festival in Vestmannaeyjar on August 1 – August 5, 2023. 
All extra trips are according to Herjólf’s sailing schedule but they will only stop in Mjódd, Hveragerði, N1 Selfoss, Hella, Hvolsvöllur and Landeyjahöfn. 
Trips according to timetable stops at regular stops on route 52, also the trips with early departures, they are marked with an asterisk (*) in the tables.

Due to construction work on Laugavegur, there will be detours on routes 2, 5, 14, 15, 17 and night route 104. This will apply from July 15 to July 29.
Laugavegur will be closed in both directions between the intersection of Nóatún and Laugavegur and Laugavegur 172 due to pipeline renewal.

Changes on routes 51 and 52 this summer

A new price list will take effect on July 1st. 
On July 1st, a new price list of Strætó will take effect. Prices for single tickets increases by 3.2% and period pass prices will increase by 3.85%. The price of Klapp plastic cards remains unchanged at 1.000 kr. 
The decision regarding the price is made by the board of Strætó. The price increases are intended to cover general cost price increases as well as higher labour costs and reduce the need for further cut down of the route network in the capital area.
 
Changes in price list for the countryside by Vegagerðin 
Vegagerðin (Icelandic Road Administration) has decided to raise its own prices at the same time as Strætó. In an announcement from Vegagerðin, the increase amounts to 5,3% and the single fare will go from 570 kr. to 600 kr. The price for period cards will remain unchanged. For example, a trip from Reykjavík to Akureyri goes from 12.540 kr. to 13.200 kr. and a trip from Reykjavík to Keflavík from 2.280 kr. to 2.400 kr.

Changes in price list at Strætó

Road 1 will be closed between the intersections to Hvalfjarðarvegur and Grundartangi tomorrow, June 26th from 21:00 to 06:30 on Thursday morning due to road constructions.
Route 57, which was supposed to depart from Akureyri at 16:20 tomorrow will be cancelled. 
Route 57, which was supposed to depart at 23:00 from Mjódd to Borgarnes will be cancelled.

Route 57 tomorrow - cancelled trips

As of June 25th 2024 routes 2, 12 and 14 will stop detouring through Sæbraut and will now drive through Hverfisgata towards the city center.
Construction work is completed on the stop Laugavegur, on the west side of Snorrabraut and the stop will therefore move from its temporary location at the intersection of Grettisgata to the future location at the intersection of Laugavegur.

Routes 2, 12 and 14 will no longer drive a detour

The following changes will be made to routes in Suðurnes.

Route 55:
The timetable will change significantly to keep better time schedule.
<ul>
<li>Morning trips that depart today at 6:35 from Keflavík Airport and 6:34 from Hringbraut/Melteigur will be combined into one trip that departs from the airport at 6:20 and stops at Hringbraut/Melteigur at 6:28.</li>
<li>Trips that leave today at 7:57 and 8:25 from BSÍ will also be combined into one trip that leaves from BSÍ at 8:15, the next stop is Klambratún.</li>
<li>Route 55 stops driving around the center of Reykjavík from BSÍ &#8211; Ráðhús &#8211; BSÍ and does not drive further than BSÍ except for the first trip of the day on weekdays. Thus, it is only the first trip from Keflavík Airport at 6:20 which drives around the city center (with a stop at HÍ at 7:46).</li>
</ul>
Route 87:
<ul>
<li>Route 87 will run 8 trips a day on weekdays from Vogar to Miðstöð in Reykjanesbær with a stop at Vogaafleggjari. The route will also run 8 trips per day on weekdays from Miðstöð to Vogar with a stop at Vogaafleggjari. On Saturdays and Sundays there will be 2 trips in each direction.</li>
</ul>
Route 89:
<ul>
<li>The time of some trips on route 89 will be changed to match better to trips that change at route 55 to/from Miðstöð.</li>

Street closures will affect some routes in the center of Reykjavík and other municipalities.
Street closure will be in the center of Reykjavík from seven in the morning to seven in the evening. Then there will be disruptions in other municipalities between 10:15 and 15:00.
In Reykjavík, it will not be possible to drive through Lækjargata from Hverfisgata, Fríkirkjuvegur, Sóleyjargata, Bjarkargata, Skothúsavegur, and Vonarstræti from Tjarnargata between 07:00 and 19:00. 
In Hafnarfjörður, routes 1, 19 and 21 will take a detour due to a parade on Hringbraut and Lækjargata from 13:00 to 13:30. 
In Mosfellsbær, routes 7 and 15 will take detours due to a parade from 13:00 – 14:00.
