IT development and better public transports at InformNorden

The InformNorden conference will be held in Reykjavik, Iceland between 16 – 18 November. The conference is held alternately in the Nordic countries, but this year it is being held at the Hilton Reykjavík Nordica, and Strætó is in charge of the planning and setup.

The yearly conference InformNorden is a landmark in the Nordic ITS world and is known for being a leading discussion forum for IT related challenges and opportunities in the Nordic market as well as the international market. We have seen topics going through generations of Information Technology developments, such as different Ticketing mechanisms, passenger information systems, planning systems and design.

This time the conference is double, because the Nordisk Lokaltraffik conference is held at the same time. There, the focus is on public transport in a broad context, such as the City Line project (BRT), environmental issues and the impact of crisis such as Covid on the public transport sector. The speakers are many and different, but all experts in their field and/or public transport managers in cities such as Stockholm, Copenhagen, Oslo, Helsinki and Reykjavík, as well as many other good guests. You can see the agenda of the conference here: https://informnorden.org/agenda/

The conference is an important meeting place for hardware and software suppliers in the industry and decision makers in the Public Transport sector. Direct networking between stakeholders from all parts of our sector has thus always been one of the greatest features of the conference and continues to be so in Reykjavik 2022.

Nordic Public Transport Design Award

This year, for the first time, an award for outstanding design will be awarded at the conference. All the Nordic countries nominate two projects, one in the field of digital service and wayfinding and the other in the field of accessibility in a broad context. The winner will to be presented at InformNorden on 17 November 2022.

Design is a major factor, both in the real world of public transport and the digital world, and the goal is to make the service more accessible and beautiful for users. It is therefore long overdue to pay this issue respect and hopefully the award will grow and become an annual event at the InformNorden conference.
