Due to low attendance on the extra trip on route 55 in the morning, it has been decided to cancel it.
The additional trip was at 7:05 from BSÍ to FS and at 8:20 from Miðstöð to BSÍ.
The last extra trip will therefore be on Friday, December 1st, and the regular timetable will take effect on Monday, December 4th.

Vegna lítillar aðsóknar í aukaferð á leið 55 á morgnana hefur verið ákveðið að fella hana niður.
Aukaferðin var kl. 7:05 frá BSÍ að FS og kl. 8:20 frá Miðstöð að BSÍ.
Síðasta aukaferðin verður því föstudaginn 1. desember og hefðbundin tímatafla tekur gildi mánudaginn 4. desember.

The additional trip on route 55 is cancelled

A new price list will take effect on January 8, 2025. The increase amounts to 3.1% for single fares and 3.7% for period passes. The single fare will rise from 650 kr. to 670 kr., and the 30-day passes for students, youth, and seniors will increase from 5.400 kr. to 5.600 kr. The price of Klapp plastic cards remains unchanged at 1.000kr.
Strætó will discontinue the sale of day passes (24-hour and 72-hour) in the coming weeks, as capping now replaces these products. Unused 24-hour and 72-hour passes will not be invalidated.
The decision to change fares was made by the board of Strætó at its meeting on December 13, 2024, in line with the projected consumer price index increase for the year.
These fare changes apply to Strætó services in the capital area, while fares in the countryside remain unchanged. The new price list will take effect on Wednesday, January 8, 2025.

Starting January 1st, departures on route 94 in both directions will be accelerated by one hour to accommodate the changed flight schedule from Mýflug.  The new schedule takes effect Friday, January 3rd as there will be no flights on New Year&#8217;s Day.

At the beginning of 2025, Strætó plans to start charging a penalty fee to passengers who cannot show a valid fare during inspection. This is based on Act No. 28/2017 and rules No. 1021/2023. Children under 15 years of age will not be charged.
Ticket inspectors have been present on buses for many years, and this will now become one of their responsibilities. While it has always been permissible to remove passengers from buses if they have not paid the correct fare, the addition of a penalty fee for those who cannot present a valid fare during inspections will now be implemented. The fee is charged in online banking or paid on site as applicable.
The purpose of the penalty fee is to reduce fare evasion, including passengers traveling without a valid ticket or using the wrong fare category, and to ensure that all passengers contribute to the public transportation system.
The penalty fee is intended to promote fairness and equity in public transportation. By ensuring that all passengers pay the correct fare, we can maintain good service and prevent additional costs caused by fare evasion from affecting other passengers.
How much is the penalty fee?
General: 15.000 kr.
Young people: 7.500 kr.
Elderly: 7.500 kr.
Disabled people: 4.500 kr.

Plan to Introduce a Penalty Fee in the New Year

After the New Year, route 95 will stop driving entirely, but the bus has been running between Borgarfjörður and Egilsstaðir. The last day of driving is therefore December 30, 2024.

Now it is possible to pay contactless on board all buses in the capital area, but contactless payments have been in testing at Strætó. This new payment solution, which is part of the Klapp payment system, is now fully operational for customers.
It is possible to buy one single standard fare (one adult fare) with contactless payments.
Contactless payments are convenient when customers want to use Kapp – the new fare capping, you never pay more than 3 rides per day or 9 per week with an adult ticket. Simple and convenient, just remember to use the same payment method, the same payment card, the same Klapp card or the same Klappið (the app).

<li>The ticket is valid for 75 min – so if you switch buses and scan your card again within those 75 minutes, you won’t be charged for a new ticket</li>

Pay contactless on board the bus

It has been decided to change the arrangement for all routes with pre-order services so that customers now call Hreyfill at 588 55 22 to book a trip. This applies to routes 22, 23, 25, 26, 27 and 29.
Pre-order service means customers have to book their trips 30 minutes in advance via phone 588 55 22 to order a trip. You can only pay for the fare by showing Klapp card, activated ticket in the Klapp app, Klapp ten or valid ticket.
