New bus stops in Fossvogur will be put into use on Thursday, August 15, but they are located on either side of the pedestrian bridge from Fossvogur over Kringlumýrarbraut. Routes 1, 2 and 4 will stop at both.

Nýjar biðstöðvar í Fossvogi verða teknar í notkun fimmtudaginn 15. ágúst en þær eru staðsettar sitt hvorum megin við göngubrúna frá Fossvogi yfir Kringlumýrarbraut.  Leiðir 1, 2 og 4 munu stoppa á þeim báðum.

Strætó reception will be closed on Thursday 6th February from 9am-12pm, while a red weather alert is in effect. Strætó&#8217;s call service will be open from 7am-4:30pm as usual and customers can call 540 2700.
Disruptions are expected to continue in the countryside for bus service, but the weather may also affect routes within the capital area. We ask people to please check out alerts under <a href="https://www.straeto.is/en/route-planner/status-of-trips">&#8222;Route alerts&#8220;</a> for further information on trips.

Preparations have begun for the development of a priority lane for Strætó buses on Kringlumýrarbraut. The lane will be about 500m long. New bus stops are also planned near the intersection at Háaleitisbraut. Strætó, the Icelandic Road Administration (Vegagerðin), Betri samgöngur and Reykjavík city are working together on this project.
This priority lane will shorten the travel time by 4-5 minutes for passengers who are, for example, on their way to Borgartún or Hlemmur. 
Currently, Strætó does not drive there because traffic is too slow during rush hour and there are no bus stops on this route today. Currently, Strætó drives up Miklubraut, past Kringla then goes west along Háaleitisbraut and then turns north on Kringlumýrarbraut.
Now the project design and tender documents are being worked on, and hopefully the first part of the project will be tendered before the spring.
When construction begins, it will affect route 4, which will no longer go via Miklubraut and Háaleitisbraut, but will instead go straight on Kringlumýrabraut, and on that route, new stops will be put up for route 4 near the intersection at Háaleitisbraut.

A new price list will take effect on January 8, 2025. The increase amounts to 3.1% for single fares and 3.7% for period passes. The single fare will rise from 650 kr. to 670 kr., and the 30-day passes for students, youth, and seniors will increase from 5.400 kr. to 5.600 kr. The price of Klapp plastic cards remains unchanged at 1.000kr.
Strætó will discontinue the sale of day passes (24-hour and 72-hour) in the coming weeks, as capping now replaces these products. Unused 24-hour and 72-hour passes will not be invalidated.
The decision to change fares was made by the board of Strætó at its meeting on December 13, 2024, in line with the projected consumer price index increase for the year.
These fare changes apply to Strætó services in the capital area, while fares in the countryside remain unchanged. The new price list will take effect on Wednesday, January 8, 2025.

Starting January 1st, departures on route 94 in both directions will be accelerated by one hour to accommodate the changed flight schedule from Mýflug.  The new schedule takes effect Friday, January 3rd as there will be no flights on New Year&#8217;s Day.

At the beginning of 2025, Strætó plans to start charging a penalty fee to passengers who cannot show a valid fare during inspection. This is based on Act No. 28/2017 and rules No. 1021/2023. Children under 15 years of age will not be charged.
Ticket inspectors have been present on buses for many years, and this will now become one of their responsibilities. While it has always been permissible to remove passengers from buses if they have not paid the correct fare, the addition of a penalty fee for those who cannot present a valid fare during inspections will now be implemented. The fee is charged in online banking or paid on site as applicable.
The purpose of the penalty fee is to reduce fare evasion, including passengers traveling without a valid ticket or using the wrong fare category, and to ensure that all passengers contribute to the public transportation system.
The penalty fee is intended to promote fairness and equity in public transportation. By ensuring that all passengers pay the correct fare, we can maintain good service and prevent additional costs caused by fare evasion from affecting other passengers.
How much is the penalty fee?
General: 15.000 kr.
Young people: 7.500 kr.
Elderly: 7.500 kr.
Disabled people: 4.500 kr.
