Mobility week starts September 16th

Tomorrow European mobility week begins which is from 16 – 22 September. Mobility week is a European awareness-raising campaign to improve transports in cities and towns. Since, 2002 cities and towns in Iceland have participated in this concerted effort with municipalities in Europe and Strætó has been involved since beginning.

The aim of the week is to encourage people to think about their own travel habits and encourage more people to use diverse, sustainable means of travel.

Variety of events will be on schedule on the mobility week:


Tuesday, September 19 at 17-19.

BMX festival at Miðbæjartorg in Mosfellsbær. BMX BRÓS will have an energetic show and afterwards they offer a fun bike course where participants solve challenging bike puzzles, get instruction in the basics, and then finish with a time trial. Remember to bring a bike and a helmet.

Wednesday, September 20 at 15-17.

Dr. Bike on Miðbæjartorg in Mosfellsbær. All bike owners are encouraged to bring their bikes for a free condition check at Dr. Bike. The Doctor brings his mobile inspection station, a pump, oils, and some wrenches. He inspects the bikes and certifies their health.

Friday, September 22

Car-free day September 22 – Free access to buses in the capital area and in the countryside. Everybody is encouraged to rest their cars and use eco-friendly means of transport.
