Prices on board provincial buses changes on 1 June

It is no longer necessary to pre-order the first three trips of route 25 on weekdays, this route is between Spöngin and Gufunes in Grafarvogur.  Up until now, all trips on this route have been in pre-order service, but now the first three trips in the morning will not be, from Spöngin B at 6:52, 7:22 and 7:52.
You still need to pre-order trips at 8:22 and later 30 minutes in advance by calling 540 2740. All trips during weekends are also in pre-order service.

Changes on route 25

Route 93 will run an extra trip on Tuesdays in line with Smyril Line´s sailings. The extra trip will last until Tuesday, May 28, but on June 6, the extra trip will be moved to Thursdays in accordance with Smyril Line´s sailing schedule.

Strætó´s new electric buses started to drive this morning. These are nine buses of the type Yes-EU (CRRC 8m) and they come from China, like the older electric buses that Strætó has, which have served Strætó well. The heating system inside the buses will be fuelled by electricity and not oil. They are therefore very environmentally friendly and are a good addition to Strætó&#8217;s fleet and in accordance with Strætó&#8217;s strategy for a carbon-free fleet in 2030.
&#8222;The buses are a great addition to Strætó&#8217;s fleet and it&#8217;s a pleasure to see them start driving,&#8220; says Jóhannes S. Rúnarsson, CEO of Strætó. &#8222;With these new electric buses, more than 30% of Strætó&#8217;s fleet is now carbon-free, which is good for the environment, and Strætó aims to further increase its number of environmentally friendly buses in the coming years.&#8220;
The buses will drive routes 8, 22, 23 and 31, and for route 22 in Garðabær this means better access for people, as the electric buses are larger and more user-friendly than those that drove the route before. Charging stations have been set up both at Hestháls 14 and in Ásgarður in Garðabær, and the buses are charged at the end of or between runs.
Hrannar Bragi Eyjólfsson, board member of Strætó from Garðabær, says this is a very joyful phase. &#8222;With new electric buses, we will have improved access, for example for people who need to use wheelchair, strollers and bikes. We are very happy to be able to offer an environmentally friendly option in an environmentally friendly community.&#8220;

Strætó´s new electric buses have started to drive

The year is certainly off to a good start for Strætó, more and more trips are being taken with Strætó, as public transport is an ecological and economical option. January and February had record number of boardings in the capital area, since regular measurements began. In January, there were more than 1.121.000 boardings, previously the highest number of boardings measured in January was last year, when they were 1.119.000. In February, there were almost 1.179.000 boardings measured, in February last year there were 1,069,000 boardings, which was the previous February record.
Last year was a true record year, as there have never been a greater number of boardings over the year in the capital area, or 12,64 million boardings.
We are very grateful for this good start and hope to see as many people as possible on the bus this year.

The bus stop on route 71 in Þorlákshöfn will be moved, and starting from Wednesday February 21st the stop will be at the town hall (ráðhús) instead of in front of the stores.
