New contracts with Hagvagnar and Kynnisferðir
Yesterday, a big step was taken towards a carbon-free fleet in 2030 when new contracts were signed with Hagvagnar and Kynnisferðir regarding the operation of buses.
On April 29 last Strætó’s board decided to enter contracts with these companies, since they offered the lowest price for the work and submitted final bids.
In the new tender, a demand was made that the operator’s fleet of buses become carbon-free by the end of 2029, but this is in line with Strætó’s goal of a carbon-free fleet in 2030. This is 70 buses, and with normal renewal of Strætó’s bus fleet, this goal should be achieved.
„We at Strætó are very pleased with these contracts, which supports our goal of a carbon-free fleet,“ says Jóhannes S. Rúnarsson, CEO of Strætó. „We have already secured the purchase of nine electric buses, and the contract is another step towards this important goal.“
