Due to mobility week which started September 16th, the Car-free day will be tomorrow September 22nd. There will be free access to Strætó buses in the capital area and in the countryside during the day and everybody is encouraged to rest their cars and use diverse and eco-friendly means of transport.
This is an ideal opportunity to change your daily routine and stroll, run, cycle, jump or take the bus to work or school.

Tomorrow European mobility week begins which is from 16 – 22 September. Mobility week is a European awareness-raising campaign to improve transports in cities and towns. Since, 2002 cities and towns in Iceland have participated in this concerted effort with municipalities in Europe and Strætó has been involved since beginning.
The aim of the week is to encourage people to think about their own travel habits and encourage more people to use diverse, sustainable means of travel.

Variety of events will be on schedule on the mobility week:
 
Tuesday, September 19 at 17-19. 
BMX festival at Miðbæjartorg in Mosfellsbær. BMX BRÓS will have an energetic show and afterwards they offer a fun bike course where participants solve challenging bike puzzles, get instruction in the basics, and then finish with a time trial. Remember to bring a bike and a helmet.
Wednesday, September 20 at 15-17. 
Dr. Bike on Miðbæjartorg in Mosfellsbær. All bike owners are encouraged to bring their bikes for a free condition check at Dr. Bike. The Doctor brings his mobile inspection station, a pump, oils, and some wrenches. He inspects the bikes and certifies their health.
Friday, September 22
Car-free day September 22 – Free access to buses in the capital area and in the countryside. Everybody is encouraged to rest their cars and use eco-friendly means of transport.

Mobility week starts September 16th

On Saturday, September 2, Two additional buses will drive on route 55 on Ljósanótt ( Night of Lights). Note that these are additional buses following the standard timetable and not extra trips. The first extra bus leaves at 17:53 from Fjörður and ends at Hringbraut/Melteigur in Keflavík.
The second extra bus leaves at 23:01 from Hringbraut/Melteigur in Keflavík and drives to BSÍ.
NOTE:
<ul>
<li>The additional buses will have a sign: Additional buses (Aukavagnar)</li>
<li>The extra buses do not drive between Hringbraut/Melteigur and Keflavík Airport and vice versa. They will drive the traditional route through Hafnarfjörður, Vogaafleggjari, Grindavíkurafleggjari and through Keflavík.</li>
<li>The extra bus at 23:01 from Keflavík will drive all the way to BSÍ.</li>
<li>The standard price for the countryside applies and the fare can be paid on board the bus by payment card or cash. Please note that you can not use Klappið on buses in the countryside.</li>
</ul>

Additional buses on route 55 at Ljósanótt

On the weekend of August 25-27, 2023, a night bus will start driving to Mosfellsbær on route 106.
Mosfellsbær made a service contract with Strætó for this service for the residents of Mosfellsbær and pays all costs for the driving within the municipality. A single fare on the night is the same amount as double fare but customers with 30 day and 1 year’s bus cards can use them on night buses.
Route 106 has so far ended its trip in Grafarvogur at night but will now head into Mosfellsbær and end its route there. The departure times have therefore changed, and the bus departs now from Lækjartorg B at 1:30, 2:35 and 3:40.

Route 93 will drive at 10:15, on Friday August 18 instead of Thursday as usual in line with Smyril Line´s sailings.
